St. Louis Shoulder Injuries Specialist

Treating shoulder injuries such as a rotator cuff tear often requires the expertise of a shoulder specialist. For patients in the St. Louis area, the shoulder injuries specialist of choice is Dr. Mark Miller. As a founding partner of The Orthopedics Center of St. Louis, Dr. Miller is one of the area's leading specialists in knee and shoulder injuries.

Labral Repair

Advances in technology over the last decade have made shoulder arthroscopic surgery the treatment option of choice for most labral repair procedures. As an arthroscopic specialist, Dr. Miller is well-known for his ability to successfully complete labral repair surgeries using this technique and has become one of the St. Louis areas most sought after specialists for the arthroscopic labral procedures.

Following a labral repair, Dr. Miller will prescribe a course of physical therapy tailored to each patient and the nature of their specific injuries. With time, the vast majority of Dr. Miller's labral repair patients regain full strength and range of motion.

Rotator Cuff Repair

Rotator cuff injuries (most commonly, a rotator cuff tear) rank as one of the most difficult shoulder injuries to treat and repair. If physical therapy fails to improve the situation or the injury to the rotator cuff is severe enough, surgery is often required.

Though the type of surgical repair required may call for an alternative procedure, Dr. Miller's preferred technique for a rotator cuff tear and repair is arthroscopy. If appropriate, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is a better option because it can be done on an outpatient basis and results in a less painful and far shorter recovery period than traditional open rotator cuff repair surgeries. Before any course of treatment is decided, Dr. Miller will discuss all options with you to help determine which course of action is best to meet your unique needs.
