The fall brings with it more than just changing leaves and cooler temperatures. For those of us in the sportsmedicine field it brings with it many more of our athletes with concussions. Football, Ice Hockey, and Soccer all ramp up in the fall and are sports where the risk of a concussion is much higher. In the past returning these injured athletes has always been a bit of a guessing game. Do they still have a headache? Any symptoms with moderate exercise? There is a new system to analyze concussions, and provide a scientific basis on when these athletes can return to sport. IMPACT Concussion Management is a computer based program that evaluates athletes both before and after a concussion to help team physicians determine whether an athlete is physically ready to return to their sport.
